The Tattlers thought for sure it would be a wet start to the NYC Ballet Season in Saratoga, but just at the last minute the sun shone through on Tuesday night, beautifully spotlighting SPAC and opening night of the Ballet. The evening proved to be a special occasion for many Saratogians, as the community turned out in support of the world class New York City Ballet.
At the brand new Patron’s Reception Area, Bill and Susan Dake were being honored for their generosity towards the recent renovations at SPAC. Champagne and delicious passed hors d’oeuvres were at every turn thanks to Mazzone Hospitality. In the glamorous crowd the Tattlers spotted Peter and son Charles Tulin, Nancy and Gary DiCresce, Jack Celeste, and Siobhan Ahearn (sporting a new cropped coif!). Also seen holding court were Julie Bonacio, and Ron and Michele Riggi. Mrs.Riggi looked the part in a stunning pale pink cocktail dress, that was fit for a performance! Marcia J. White gave an applauded introduction to Bill Dake who spoke passionately about his love for SPAC and the special meaning that it holds for him. He also gave thanks to the people involved in the renovation including Dave Jersen, Key Bank, and Bonacio Construction.
Also in attendance that evening were the Saratoga Hospital Gala Committee. The committee members could be found under a white tent, in various shades of summer, nibbling on hors d’oeuvres and sipping on chilled cocktails to combat the sun. Mara King looked elegant in a black ensemble and chunky pearl necklace, Melissa Zieker managed to look impossibly cool in a navy and white striped sleeves number and Michele Funiciello looked fantastic in a flowing navy maxi dress. At 8pm just as it started to cool down in Saratoga Springs, the all Balanchine Ballet began with Barocco followed by the beautiful Firebird, and Symphony in C. It was a breathtaking performance by all and another successful opening night for The New York City Ballet.
